Note: Always replace your struts in pairs, where applicable. Most lids, covers, or hatches have a strut on each side. Failure to replace both struts can result in a warped or damaged hinge.
Gas Strut with Exceptional Stability
Most gas struts consist of a tube filled with pressurized nitrogen gas, a piston, and rod. The Atlas Lift strut, however, has a dynamic damping groove inside the tube that regulates gas movement across the piston. This ensures your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch stays open when you want it open and shuts slowly without bouncing or slamming. Lastly, in contrast to struts that only have gas in the chamber, a few drops of oil have been mixed in to help seal the piston and lubricate the rod. This allows your lid to move more smoothly as the rod travels in and out of the tube.
How to Find the Right Gas Strut for Your Application
Determining which gas strut is right for your application is easy. All you need to do is remove your worn-out strut and locate the force printed on the side of the tube:
Then, pull the rod out so it's fully extended and take the following measurements:

What's up, everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're checking out this universal lift from Atlas Lift, and it's gonna be good for replacing those lifts that are built into your boat doors, or even your RV doors, the basement doors, or your toolboxes. As you see today, we're gonna pop open our toolbox and this one is broken. So, we had to remove it. So, this is gonna be the replacement. It doesn't open as great as it used to.
Just with that one lift, you see it's kind of worn out. Takes a little bit. It stays up but you have to lift it up quite a bit. You shouldn't have to do that. It should just pop up.
So, that's why we're gonna replace this part right here with the one that's missing. And to make sure you get the right one make sure you measure from eyelet to eyelet on your existing one. So, this is gonna be about 10 inches. So, we're gonna make sure we've got one that matches that. And we do, and it's got the force pounds.
And there's usually on the strut but make sure you check the one that was on the toolbox says 45 and this one's 35 to 45 force pounds. Another measurement you wanna look at besides going from eyelet to eyelet, like we did, would be one, you can check the stroke. So, that's for more of those closer together doors. Maybe not as much room as this toolbox has to open. You'll have less space.
You wanna make sure you get that right, that way it doesn't try and push it out too far. Just push the eyelet down on the ball right there. Make sure the thinner arm is going down. Just kind of match the one on the other side of your box, when in doubt. We'll just push that into place right there. And we'll come down here to the bottom, do the same thing. All right. Now this is with it replaced. Opens just fine. It opens all on its own too. I like that. We'll shut it again. Show you. And if my hand's out of the way, pops right up. It's gonna be a black powder coat. And in the stroke section here is gonna be coated in nitrate which is gonna keep it from rusting or corroding, keeping in that damage. There's also O rings in there too to help protect the internal. So when it is open and closing, none of the elements get inside and damage anything in there. To remove the strut, it's pretty easy. You put the screwdriver, flat blade screwdriver, down underneath that metal band. Kind of lift up, so it lifts it up and out of place. From there, you can just pull it off the ball joint. It'll do the same thing on the bottom. So, all in all, it's pretty useful. I like that you can replace these easily on any doors or toolboxes. Like I said, even on your boat. You don't have to get a whole new door or anything. It's like a small thing, that if it bends, it's not that big a deal. You just look it up, get the replacement. They're not that hard to uninstall and they're definitely not hard to put back on there. So, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. I hope this helps..

If your tool box lid, bed cover, or boat hatch keeps closing when you need it to stay open, it's time to change your strut. Replace it with this universal fit gas strut and make your lid operate like new again. Quick, tool-free installation. These worked fine during warm weather, however, when it got cold they quit working and would not hold nor lift the glass lid. These have been replaced with factory units.
just took longer then expected .
So far so good. We will see if they last another winter here in Colorado. The struts we have had in the past seem to fail in the winter time.
They worked perfect. Glad I made the purchase at etrailer
